"Constructing Change" Conference

"Constructing Change: Seeking Our Human Rights" is a conference for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered people, their friends, families and interested professionals. It is sponsored by the Washburn Law Student Gay and Lesbian Network at the Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas.

Objectives

* To gain insight into civil and human rights issues that impact gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people;
* To develop strategies for constructing legal change as well as charting new ways to enhance our fundamental rights to spiritual, emotional and intellectual growth; and
* To provide a forum for networking and sharing within our communities and enhancing the knowledge of professionals who interact with our communities.

Speakers

Past conferences have featured speakers such as Ruthann Robson, Evan Wolfson, Patricia A. Cain, Matthew Coles, Roger Leishman, Mark E. Wojcik, James L. Schwartz, Suzanne J. Levitt, and James Wilets.

Topics

Topics discussed at previous conferences have included religion, the impact of the criminal justice system on gays and lesbians, gay marriage, sodomy laws, relationships, family law, civil rights, and international law. Scott Curry covered the second Constructing Change Conference for the Liberty Press and has made the article available on his home page.
