Who we are

CLS is the largest international and non-denominational Christian membership organization for attorneys, judges, law professors and law students.

Community Outreach

For the past several years, CLS has maintained a relationship with the Topeka Rescue Mission.  Every second Saturday of the month, representatives from Washburn Law spend an hour and a half of their evening serving food to Topeka's neediest residents.  This simple act reminds us to be thankful for what we have, and it gives us the opportunity to serve Christ by serving others.

About the Christian Legal Society

Since its founding in 1961, CLS has grown to become the largest national non-denominational Christian membership organization of attorneys, judges, law professors, and law students. We are in over 1100 cities, all 50 states and 28 foreign countries, working in association with thousands of supportive lay people some of whom are also associate members of CLS.

CLS' mission is to be the national grassroots network of lawyers and law students committed to proclaiming, loving and serving Jesus Christ through all we do and say in the practice of law, particularly through CLS' Membership Ministries.

CLS also advocates biblical conflict reconciliation and voluntary/low-fee legal assistance for the needy through its Public Ministries; defends religious freedom and the sanctity of innocent human life through its Center for Law and Religious Freedom; and offers the love, teachings and call of Jesus Christ to the more than 120,000 law students on America's more than 180 law school campuses though CLS' Law Student Ministries.

Whether you are an attorney, judge, law student, or a citizen we can help. We are here to serve you in the spirit of Jesus Christ.

Why Join CLS

10 REASONS WHY A STUDENT SHOULD JOIN CHRISTIAN LEGAL SOCIETY

To honor the Lord in law school by associating publicly with a national grassroots network of Christian lawyers and law students, committed to proclaiming, loving and serving Jesus Christ, through all we do and say in the practice of law, and advocating biblical conflict reconciliation, public justice, religious freedom and the sanctity of human life.

To associate with a Christian legal community committed to a common confession of faith whose members are available to teach the student what it means to submit every aspect of their calling in the legal profession to Christ.

To better avail yourself of Law Student Ministries' (LSM) staff and resources to establish a student group committed to glorifying God through spiritual development and campus outreach.

To receive spiritual and professional encouragement from the CLS and LSM staffs and from a vast network of CLS attorneys, law professors, judges and fellow students.

To cultivate invaluable contacts-judges, senior partners, practicing attorneys, politicians, and government employees-who can assist you with finding summer internships and job prospects upon graduation.

To grow in your faith through CLS's various publications and tapes such as The Christian Lawyer, The Christian Lawyer Digest, the newsletter Briefly, the Defender, Bible studies tailored for Christian attorneys and law students, and pamphlets and training materials on religious liberty and other important social and legal issues.

To qualify for significant discounts on Christian legal publications stocked by CLS, including Bible studies relevant to integrating faith and the practice of law.

To receive the CLS Resource Index, a listing of helpful books and tools designed to encourage personal and chapter growth and to have available to your CLS affiliated student chapter a free copy of the CLS National Directory, the only comprehensive listing of Christian attorneys by state and specialty.

To learn about God's mighty actions in the legal profession by attending, at significant savings, the CLS National Conference, an event described by numerous law students over the years as "life changing." Annual regional conferences are also available for students in many parts of the country.

For membership information, including information about special group membership rates, contact one of the student officers.
